I don't think she is stupid. I don't agree with her idea that everyone should free healthcare or free university from the government. I think longterm the best solution is to have almost 100% of free-market healthcare. Longterm this will lower the cost of healthcare then what we pay in taxes through competition and accelerate innovation in healthcare. Take for example the Space exploration industry. Last 10 years the innovation in technology has finally begun to accelerate once again due to the private sector where the government is barely progressing. The goverment should only be helping the dirt poor when it comes to healthcare I don't think people should have a free university. People shouldn't just be able to be whatever they want to be. You have to earn it. Society should reward hard work and make sure that a university is a place for exceptional people not just for everyone. Our tax dollars shouldn't go to people who are just gonna fail courses.
What was considered radical in the US (at least before Bernie and AOC) is centrist in the rest of the western world, i.e. the EU and Canada. It's just two simple amendments to capitalism: 1. There is a limit of wealth that a person should be able to amass, simply because at some point it doesn't increase the quality of life anymore and is just greed for status and power. 2. While a system that rewards based on merit is well and just, there are some goods that even the "lazy" and "untalented" people deserve, i.e. Food & Water, Education, Housing and Health care and these things should be paid by taxes. Beyond that people are welcome to have their 15 houses, mega yachts and islands.

When somebody says *"how are we going to pay for it?"* We pay for it the same way the congress paid for the $700-billion defense authorization program---congress VOTED that economic policy/funds into existence--and without raising a single dime in *federal taxes.* Article One, Section Eight of the U.S. constitution mandates that Congress *mint* (create funds) and tax to provide for the general welfare of society. I'm amazed at how many people do not understand how our monetary system works. Once an economic spending bill law is passed by congress, the Federal Reserve is then ordered by that *decree* to create the funds to pay for that program. It is the U.S. congress that has the power to vote for policy and the funds to pay for it. You've never heard that we need to increase federal taxes in order fund our *military budget* The lesson here is to vote in members of congress, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who are going to pass policy programs, like *Single Payer Medicare-for-All* or a *Federal Job Guarantee program,* and not just spending programs on our military only.

In fact, Amazon was being provided $3 billion in tax breaks and tax credits, which would've been funded by taxpayers who wouldn't benefit from the development but would see mom & pop shops and small entrepreneurial businesses close down. AOC took on the juggernaut and was able to prevent a catastrophe. She's also caught Wilbur Ross in a lie over immigration citizenship census in which he engineered certain details without congressional approval. She got him to perjure himself. She's excellent at cross-examining actors or witnesses during testimonial hearings. Also, keep in mind she's only been there a year and she's done a lot more than most people have done in their 5 years in Congress. That's bc she doesn't spend her days calling up donors for upcoming elections, she's actually doing the job that our tax dollars pay her to do.
And you know what else she did, as a veteran, I have witnessed firsthand the price gouging of these companies that sell our military essential items at many times their value. She made them pay back our government and put a spotlight on all the other self-serving riff raff out there that profit unfairly off of those who serve!!

Universal free healthcare will never work in a country like the US. Also do you realize that just because it says "free" it does not mean it is free. You are gonna need to pay much more taxes and especially the rich if these democrats get anything through. They will most likely cut everybody's salary including yours. So almost everyone will be more poor and everyone will suffer from higher taxes.

You’re paying for For-profit insurance and unregulated hospital costs, and in turn have the highest infant mortality rate in the western world. I’m a Canadian (millennial) making 80k per year, which is about 30k more than the average. I still only pay 30% income tax. I lived in Germany, where insurance is privatized but heavily regulated, and only 10% of my income (the standard rate regardless of income) went towards my insurance. It is really not expensive to have fair healthcare. It’s a lie that’s fed to people and keeps the poor repressed and sick.

Not to mention fair access to free/affordable women’s health clinics being an economic issue. Also, isn’t your unemployment rate incredibly low in the US? The number of uninsured far outnumbered the unemployed. Problem is, that countries that have public healthcare, have the concept embedded in government budgets, taxes, specific regulation, pension fund agreements, and ... the most far from American reality and hardest to grasp: state owned resources and government employees. Obama didn't make one single step towards making it viable for a long term, and Trump took it to a complete other way. So, doesn't look like it's gonna happen.
Great for regular folks. People often forget that the middle class and the poor make up the majority of people in this country. When Trump said he wanted to "make America great again" he meant for the wealthy. Most people like to help themselves and their friends, that's part of life. When all your friends are wealthy who benefits? You and they do. I think it's sad that we, as the middle class, are not represented better in our own government. Women like AOC and Katie Porter are what we need more of. Regular, every day, Americans.

My grandparents raised 3 children and had a home bought and paid for. My grandfather was the only one with the income, and he managed to give a large number of his family members when he passed sizable bonds, me being one of them. He worked in a post office. Times were MUCH different then indeed.

I think it enables you to change a lot of things and it's a field where you can have a career thats really passionate and meaningful. Btw if youre interested in this topic, I can highly recommend Michelle's book, she was also a lawyer who went from high class law firm to public work to politics and I found it a very good read :)

I don't think she is stupid. I don't agree with her idea that everyone should free healthcare or free university from the government. I think longterm the best solution is to have almost 100% of free-market healthcare. Longterm this will lower the cost of healthcare then what we pay in taxes through competition and accelerate innovation in healthcare. Take for example the Space exploration industry. Last 10 years the innovation in technology has finally begun to accelerate once again due to the private sector where the government is barely progressing. The goverment should only be helping the dirt poor when it comes to healthcare
I don't think people should have a free university. People shouldn't just be able to be whatever they want to be. You have to earn it. Society should reward hard work and make sure that a university is a place for exceptional people not just for everyone. Our tax dollars shouldn't go to people who are just gonna fail courses.

What was considered radical in the US (at least before Bernie and AOC) is centrist in the rest of the western world, i.e. the EU and Canada. It's just two simple amendments to capitalism:
1. There is a limit of wealth that a person should be able to amass, simply because at some point it doesn't increase the quality of life anymore and is just greed for status and power.
2. While a system that rewards based on merit is well and just, there are some goods that even the "lazy" and "untalented" people deserve, i.e. Food & Water, Education, Housing and Health care and these things should be paid by taxes.
Beyond that people are welcome to have their 15 houses, mega yachts and islands.

It is the U.S. congress that has the power to vote for policy and the funds to pay for it.

Universal free healthcare will never work in a country like the US. Also do you realize that just because it says "free" it does not mean it is free. You are gonna need to pay much more taxes and especially the rich if these democrats get anything through. The rich are the ones that hire you and most of the people in this country, and think for a second what might happen if their salary is cut? They will most likely cut everybody's salary including yours. So almost everyone will be more poor and everyone will suffer from higher taxes.

I’m a Canadian (millennial) making 80k per year, which is about 30k more than the average. I still only pay 30% income tax.
I lived in Germany, where insurance is privatized but heavily regulated, and only 10% of my income (the standard rate regardless of income) went towards my insurance.
It is really not expensive to have fair healthcare. It’s a lie that’s fed to people and keeps the poor repressed and sick.

Great for regular folks. People often forget that the middle class and the poor make up the majority of people in this country. When Trump said he wanted to "make America great again" he meant for the wealthy. Most people like to help themselves and their friends, that's part of life. When all your friends are wealthy who benefits? You and they do. I think it's sad that we, as the middle class, are not represented better in our own government. Women like AOC and Katie Porter are what we need more of. Regular, every day, Americans.

My grandparents raised 3 children and had a home bought and paid for. My grandfather was the only one with the income, and he managed to give a large number of his family members when he passed sizable bonds, me being one of them. He worked in a post office. Times were MUCH different then indeed.
